Pilgrims lighting butter lamps at #MemorialChorten in #Thimphu to gain merit and send their prayers to the heavens. It's interesting how in various religions, including mine - Catholicism, that the act of lighting a candle/lamp holds a similar symbolism. Definitely makes you think. In #Thimpu, traffic police stands at their post to direct traffic from 4 directions. Bhutan had been an isolated nation until quite recently and many are still unfamiliar with the concept of traffic lights, preferring the traditional method of traffic redirecting. A Bhutanese guide explaining the Mandala painted on the walls of #RinpungDzong. The Mandala, drawn as a circle to represent the endless cycle of life, depicted the stages of life - from human world to realms of heaven and hell. Hi everyone, I know @etjourn's been dead for some time due to our offline commitments, but guess what! We (just one of us really) are currently in #Bhutan with a friend, and hopefully we can share a piece of this last Shangri-la through our photos and IG stories! Here, a Bhutanese monk walks towards the monk quarter in #RinpungDzong - a walled fortress housing monks and the local governmental administrative office.
